Poker News Round-Up

PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker News

Dan Cates booked wins of $120,000 and $110,000 to become the biggest winner of the day on Friday 13 February 2015 at Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker respectively. Clearly Friday 13th isn’t unlucky for everyone!

Saturday 14 February saw Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom appear on Pokerstars once more, winning $215,000 at the 2-7 Draw tables along the way.

In the tournament arena at Pokerstars, professional player Rob Tinnion has accomplished the amazing feat of winning two Sunday Million tournaments in the space of 20 weeks. Very few players have ever won two before, let alone in such a short space of time. The first prize at the PokerStars Sunday Million tournament usually wins in excess of $150,000.

World Series of Poker Tournament

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament schedule for 2015 has now been announced, and will commence on May 27th.

Exciting additions to the schedule include:

  • The $565 buy in ‘Colossus’ event – which has a $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool (29 May 2015)
  • The $10,000 buy in Dealer’s Choice event (3 July 2015)
  • The $111,111 buy-in One Drop event (28 June 2015).

Existing regular events remain a fixture in the 2015 WSOP, including the; $10,000 World Championship events across a variety of games, the $50,000 Players Championship, and of course, the Main Event. Last year’s winner was Martin Jacobson from Sweden, who had never won a major poker tournament in his life, and took away the incredible $10,000,000 first place prize.

European Poker Tour Deauville Removed

Despite being a much loved stop on the tour by many, Deauville has been removed from the European Poker Tour Deauville (EPT) schedule for 2015. This happened less than 7 days of the completion of the EPT Main Event in Deauville . As a result, Deauville will not be part of the EPT Season 12.

The contract had run its course at the current location, and organisers decided that French laws would make life difficult going forward. Regulation that includes heavy taxation, along with political aspects, are reported as the main reasons for the removal.

On a lighter note, the removal of Deauville will mean that a new city will take the open slot on the schedule, and we are waiting to find out where it will be!
